Project Fund for Innovative Adaptation
in vulnerable ecosystems of Northern Peru.

What is Living Basins?

Living Basins It is the project implemented by Profonanpe with funding from
Adaptation Fund under its Enhanced Direct Access (EDA) approach, oriented to
improve the management and execution of financial resources allocated to projects of

adaptation to climate change, facilitating direct access to local organizations in

developing countries.

Aim

Increase the population's capacity to adapt to climate change
through the financing of adaptation measures in the sectors of
water regulation, agriculture, food security and forest management
prioritized in Peru's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

What is our challenge?

Climate change intensifies the risks faced by rural communities in the country,

especially in the Andean and Amazonian regions of northern Peru.

Territories of impact

The project is being implemented in priority watersheds in northern Peru,
where climate change poses greater risks to the media

life and ecosystems.

What is our challenge?

To address the high level of risk that exists in Andean and Amazonian rural communities due to climate variability and change in the areas of agriculture, food security, water and health, and disaster risk management.

Aim

Increase the population's capacity to adapt to climate change through the financing of adaptation measures in the water regulation, agriculture, food security and forest management sectors prioritized in the Nationally Determined Contributions in the selected vulnerable basins.

Scope of intervention

1) Chancay-Lambayeque Basin

In the high districts of Cajamarca.

2) The Santa Basin from Ancash.

3) The Lower Huallaga and Paranapura rivers, home to the Shawi indigenous people of San Martín and Loreto.

Project scope

Living Basins It aims to generate direct and indirect benefits in the selected watersheds through interventions in 75 rural districts, benefiting 226 local organizations. In addition, the early warning systems could benefit 120,000 families.

Components

The project Living Basins It has four components that will be implemented in three selected basins.

Component 1: Call for proposals for a selection of leading partners and sub-projects in selected basins.

Component 2: Reduction of exposure to climate-related hazards and threats.

Component 3: Supporting the resilience of selected ecosystems.
