With the aim of continuing to promote and strengthen private ventures based on the sustainable use of natural resources associated with Protected Natural Areas (PNAs), which contribute to their conservation and generate local economic development, The National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp) and Profonanpe launched the third edition of the Entrepreneurs for Nature contest, an initiative within the framework of the Program for Conservation and Sustainable Development (PROCODES).
In a webinar held on Thursday, January 26, Deyvis Huamán, director of Protected Natural Areas Management at Sernanp, and Claudia Godfrey, director of Innovation and Strategic Management at Profonanpe, highlighted the importance of continuing to develop this type of competition. because they allow us to promote business initiatives that guarantee the conservation of our Protected Natural Areas (PNA) and demonstrate their potential as hubs of sustainable development.

In this regard, Deyvis Huamán emphasized that these types of initiatives demonstrate the commitment between the State and the private sector to promote and contribute to the development of sustainable businesses based on the management of natural resources., These initiatives are often led by peasant and indigenous communities or by entrepreneurial women living in or near protected natural areas. For their part, Claudia Godfrey indicated that in accordance with the policies of Sernanp and Profonanpe, at least 30% of the winning proposals must be led by women.

In addition, The initiatives submitted to the competition must promote the improvement, expansion, and consolidation of sustainable resource management ventures. that provide a service and/or generate a product, through actions such as the improvement of equipment, infrastructure, use of technological tools, development of technical capabilities, among others; with the aim of improving and optimizing the current offer of the venture.
So far, During the first two editions, 37 ventures have been awarded and important steps have been taken to benefit entrepreneurs, supporting more than 500 people and working with 85 indigenous and peasant communities nationwide. Furthermore, the groundwork has been laid for understanding the context in which these areas operate, and each edition of the competition has allowed for the development and strengthening of new strategies, benefiting both the participants and the protected natural areas. This will have a positive impact on the national environmental agenda.
