Amazonian sustainability and resilience
The project seeks to contribute to the long-term conservation of the Peruvian Amazon in the face of climate change, impacting the adoption of measures such as the protection of natural areas, the sustainable management of resources, the incentive of research, sustainable economic development by generating governance instruments and promoting the exchange of knowledge, among other actions.
We want to build human well-being and resilience in the Amazonian forests, through the valorization of biodiversity for food security and bio-businesses based on standing forests.
Main threats
The need to generate short-term income has driven the use of the forest for agriculture, livestock, logging and other extractive activities that cause logging, burning and progressive loss of soil fertility.
Traditional agricultural and fishing practices are often inefficient and unsustainable, with the use of agrochemicals and extractive harvests that generate deforestation, environmental degradation and pollution associated with mining activity.
Illegal mining, logging, and the illicit trade of flora and fauna severely impact ecosystems, affect endemic species, and accelerate deforestation and forest degradation, with a significant increase in recent years.
Forests and the communities that inhabit them face high vulnerability due to poverty, institutional weakness, limited territorial governance, and low implementation of public policies for sustainable development.
We will work based on four components, our pillars to guarantee the sustainable use of forest resources.
Develop collaborative governance actions, with all sectors and levels of the State.
Promote the strengthening of Amazonian connectivity through landscapes managed as mosaics of conservation and sustainable use.
Promote bio-businesses with products from the Amazonian ecosystem.
Promote knowledge management and project monitoring and evaluation.
The Amazon Fruits Competitive Fund is an initiative of the ASL2 Amazon Forests Project, aimed at strengthening sustainable ventures linked to the responsible use of Amazon forest resources.
Scope of intervention
This call prioritizes the following territories identified by the project:
