The event was attended by the Vice Minister of Strategic Resources of the Ministry of the Environment, Alfredo Mamani.

The National Seminar “Aguaje for Life”, organized by Profonanpe within the framework of the Datem del Marañon Wetlands Project, was held yesterday with the objective of promoting development opportunities in the Loreto region through the sustainable use of its natural resources, specifically the aguaje.

The Vice Minister of Strategic Resources of the Ministry of Environment, Alfredo Mamani, and the CEO of Profonanpe, Anton Willems, inaugurated this event, which was attended by prominent speakers from the public and private sectors. The meeting was divided into five thematic tables in which they shared their experiences and research on the situation of aguaje palms and other promising Amazonian palms in Amazonian regions; technological innovation, improvement of processes for harvesting, transporting and processing palm fruits, as well as access to national, regional and global markets.

From the dialogue, it was possible to confirm the need to sustainably use the natural resources of wetlands, carbon-generating ecosystems, for the economic development of indigenous populations and the promotion of other means to continue innovating in production processes and make them more efficient. In this way, it will be possible to mitigate the effects of climate change while deploying actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

José Álvarez, Director of Biological Diversity of the Ministry of Environment.

The National Seminar “Aguaje for Life” also made it possible to present the various advances in this area through the voices of representatives of the public and private sector, who presented some of the new strategies that the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Sernanp, Regional Government of Loreto, Provincial Municipality of Datem del Marañón, Inacal, Gerfor, among others, have been promoting to facilitate the development of aguaje, as well as other initiatives, including that of AJE, for the marketing of products that make sustainable use of the resources.

It is expected that in the coming months and with the gradual return to normality, these types of events, spaces for horizontal dialogue and the search for solutions to the needs of the planet, can continue to be held.
