Project that promotes resilience against forest fires in 13 Protected Natural Areas (PNA) publishes its safeguards

With the aim of promoting transparency, citizen participation and stakeholder involvement in the implementation of this project, the safeguards documents are made available.

This is done within the framework of the Sustainable and Resilient Ecosystems project: Community and Territorial Strategies for Prevention, Response and Recovery from Forest Fires in Protected Natural Areas, their Buffer Zones and Other Conservation Modalities in Peru (GEF-8 MIP-APC) which aims to strengthen the resilience of Protected Natural Areas (PNAs) in central Peru to forest fires, applying an Integrated Fire Management (IFM) approach that combines institutional capacities, community participation and territorial articulation.

 

The project operates in 13 Protected Natural Areas (PNAs) within the Central Region of SERNANP, specifically in the Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve and the Inkatoshi Kametsa Conservation Concession. It is implemented by the Ministry of the Environment, the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP), and Profonanpe, with WWF as the Implementing Agency. Global Environment Facility (GEF).

 

The National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP), as the technical implementing entity of this project, makes available to the public the safeguards documents prepared for this project, in compliance with the transparency and disclosure requirements of the Global Environment Facility (GEF):

 

  • Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF). Defines the measures to identify, assess and manage the environmental and social risks and impacts associated with the project, in all its implementation phases. [Download here]

 

  • Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP). Describes the project mechanisms to ensure informed, timely, and culturally appropriate participation of communities, local authorities, and other key stakeholders during project implementation. [Download here]

 

  • Gender Action Plan (GAP). It establishes the actions to promote gender equality, the empowerment of women and the inclusion of vulnerable groups in decision-making processes and in the benefits of the project. [Download here]
