Last Thursday, January 26, representatives from the ANECAP and Profonanpe teams held a technical meeting at the facilities of Peru's private environmental fund to jointly develop the 2023 work plan. The meeting concluded with the signing of an agreement that will allow for its implementation and the realization of the proposed actions, with regular opportunities for information exchange and coordination.
The signing of this agreement is the result of collaborative work between both entities over several technical meetings, during which its objectives and scope were defined. Through this agreement, Profonanpe and ANECAP will be able to identify and develop fundraising opportunities, as well as promote the financing, management, and technical assistance of projects of interest, especially those aimed at the financial sustainability of communal reserves, forest conservation, biodiversity, climate change, the circular and indigenous economy, and, in general, those that contribute to the sustainable development of Peruvian territory. In this regard, Fermín Chimatani commented that this agreement will allow them to “Strengthen the work and governance of indigenous peoples and develop a financial sustainability strategy so that they can have sustainable technical and financial resources over time, continue to conserve their forests, and generate conditions for a full quality of life and the strengthening of their own identity.”.
The scope of Profonanpe's actions, in accordance with its institutional policies, involves working within the communities of Indigenous peoples. Therefore, it is committed to designing and implementing interventions that promote their informed participation and respect their rights, using a horizontal and intersectional approach. Thus, the alliance between Profonanpe and ANECAP is a strategic starting point for strengthening collaborative work with representative organizations of Indigenous peoples, within the framework of implementing Profonanpe's Indigenous Peoples Policy.
During the session, the main objectives were also presented, as well as the steps to be taken to highlight the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in communal reserves. Coordination was also established for the dissemination of the Entrepreneurs by Nature initiative within the framework of communal reserves, which aims to... objective to promote and strengthen Peruvian businesses based on the sustainable use of natural resources in Protected Natural Areas (ANP).
Thus, with this commitment, it is expected that Profonanpe and ANECAP will jointly engage in activities, projects, and strategic discussions in the Communal Reserves and partner native communities of the ECAs, to strengthen co-management and generate significant added value.

Its aim is to strengthen the efficient administration and management of communal reserves, as well as the effective fulfillment of management contracts signed under a special regime.
