Profonanpe enters the sustainable industrial sector by joining the ZIS Peru Project

This initiative is a joint effort between the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Profonanpe.

The “Development of Sustainable Industrial Zones in Peru (ZIS Peru)” project, which brings together the work of PRODUCE, MINAM, UNIDO and Profonanpe, was presented at the First International Forum on the Development of Sustainable Industrial Zones in Peru, held on October 27. This initiative seeks to create a sustainable industrial zone model based on modern, clean technologies that will enable companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

This project will contribute to sustainable development by demonstrating new tools and economic approaches to the management of harmful chemicals and wastes in industrial areas, with the aim of mitigating climate change. In addition, it will have 4 components: the policy framework, capacity building, demonstration of clean technologies, and monitoring and evaluation.

Profonanpe, in its role as trustee, is responsible for the creation and delivery of the trust to the project’s beneficiary companies. For this purpose, the Adoption of Sustainable Technology Fund (ATS Fund) was created, with an amount of more than US$2 million, which will leverage projects of more than US$20 million, thus promoting a sustainable industrial zone model in Lima and Callao that can be replicated in other areas of the country.

“The trust is an instrument that guarantees the operability of the funds. Profonanpe joins the ZIS Peru Project because of its expertise in fundraising and management of investment portfolios and trusts,” said Christian Bueno, Profonanpe’s Administration and Finance Manager. He also emphasized that the trust keeps the fund’s money safe regardless of the entities that make up the project.

Christian Bueno, Administration and Finance Manager of Profonanpe, explained the role of Peru’s private environmental fund in the ZIS Peru project.

At the event, checks were presented to 3 companies that met all the requirements to access the possibility of non-refundable co-financing. With this system, the companies R&G Seguridad e Higiene Industrial, Fundición Ventanilla (FUNVESA) and Reactivos Nacionales (RENASA) will strengthen their sustainable industry by creating a model for transforming the traditional industrial sector into a sustainable one that relies on new clean and low-carbon technologies. In this third year of the project, we expect to work with 60 companies that have already submitted their applications.

R&G Seguridad e Higiene Industrial S.A.C. was one of the 3 companies that received the financing check during the forum.
