July 2021. – Just days before Peru's Bicentennial celebrations, the most representative figures of our history are regaining prominence and capturing public interest. But the figures of the Bicentennial are also the hardworking and enterprising Peruvians who are striving to continue building a better country for everyone.
With the aim of showcasing and revaluing the most symbolic figures of our nation, Profonanpe, Peru's environmental fund, presents its campaign #PescaResiliente, with which it seeks to make visible the faces of those who struggle daily to contribute, from the fishing sector, to the development of the country.
This space also seeks to invite us to reflect on the transformation that Peru has experienced in its Bicentennial year due to the effects of climate change, which motivates us to face the future with resilience, seeking new ways to care for the sea and its resources, and to include women in a sector that has historically been dominated by men.
The protagonists
Don Ubaldo Tume, A fisherman from Cabo Blanco (Piura) with over 20 years of experience in this work is one of the protagonists of this campaign. He tells us about the problems fishermen face due to climate change and its impact on the marine ecosystem; he also explains how technology and the fishermen's ancestral knowledge come together to protect the Peruvian sea.

Josefa and Veronika, They tell us how, in a profession traditionally done by men, they - like many women from the areas of Cabo Blanco, Los Órganos and El Ñuro - have found new job opportunities thanks to their effort and organization.
