For the second consecutive year, the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp), an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment, and Profonanpe, Peruvian Environmental Fund, held the Emprendedores por Naturaleza contest, an initiative that seeks to promote enterprises that develop activities in the field of natural protected areas and contribute to their conservation, thus generating economic and social development in these areas.

In this second edition, a total of S/1,519,430 was allocated to finance the reactivation and improvement of 27 business initiatives that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and are now seeking to strengthen their activities.

Each of the winning projects will have access to individual financing of between 30,000 and 60,000 soles. The beneficiaries of the contest are natural and legal persons of Peruvian nationality with business initiatives established for more than 2 years, 30% of which are led by women entrepreneurs from different parts of the country.

These initiatives are being developed in 22 protected natural areas such as Manu National Park, Alto Mayo Protected Forest, Tambopata National Reserve, Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve, among other protected areas in 15 regions. The themes chosen for this edition were tourism, natural resources such as coffee and cocoa, handicrafts and the production of fish and vegetable leather products.
