The symbolic delivery of humanitarian aid from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of Ancón took place yesterday. As it is recalled, as a result of the oil spill, they have not been able to go out to work and their economic income has been seriously affected. For this reason, the IDB allocated more than US$100,000 for the bonds that aim to mitigate part of this damage and support those fishermen who carried out their activities in the Guano Islands, Islets and Capes National Reserve System (RNSIIPG) – Islotes Pescadores Sector, and the Ancón Reserved Zone.
The Artisanal Fishermen of Ancón were present at the event.
Thus, through Profonanpe, this IDB economic fund was allocated to artisanal fishermen registered in the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of Ancón. In parallel to this humanitarian aid, Profonanpe led the #RecuperoMiMar initiative, and with the voluntary support of citizens and the private sector, it was possible to contribute to Sernanp and Serfor to carry out clean-up and remediation actions in our coastal marine ecosystem.
Tomás Bermúdez, Representative of the Inter-American Development Bank in Peru, offered a few words during the event.
During the event, the importance of the support of international cooperation and how to respond in a timely manner to this type of environmental emergencies was highlighted. In addition, all attendees emphasized that the active support of citizens is essential in order to coordinate new ways of responding jointly with the public and private sectors. Profonanpe, as the private Peruvian environmental fund, will continue to promote this type of initiative with the sense of urgency it requires.
