Last month, staff from the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp), with the support of the Natural Protected Areas Program PAN III – a project implemented by Profonanpe and financed by the German Cooperation KfW – held meetings and field trips in coordination with the Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Ica, the Provincial Municipality of Nasca, and specialists in adventure sports to verify the activities and routes for the development of tourism activities compatible with the protected natural area.
Located in the districts of Santiago (province of Ica), Changuillo, Nasca and San Juan de Marcona (province of Nasca) in the department of Ica, the San Fernando National Reserve preserves an important part of the biological corridor that links the high Andean ecosystem with the coastal marine ecosystem of this region, and contains natural values that make it an area sensitive to poor tourism practices. Therefore, this visit was important in order to establish activities that, in addition to contributing to the diversification of the tourist offerings of the southern and northern tourist circuits, guarantee through good practices that the ecosystems surrounding both circuits are not affected.
In this way, the presence of Dircetur Ica’s specialists allowed the evaluation of the technical criteria to incorporate the southern tourist circuit of the San Fernando National Reserve to the group of establishments that have the Safe Travels certification sublicense, which – through the articulated work between tour operators, institutions and competent tourism sectors – allowed the company to obtain this certification last August 14.
All these actions are part of Sernanp’s initiative to contribute to the dynamization and local economic reactivation of the province of Nasca and Marcona in an orderly and safe manner, while continuing to offer preserved natural spaces with sustainable activities compatible with the habitat of the species representative of this protected natural area.
