In the fishing coves of our country, a silent battle is being fought: to resist the impacts of climate change. Resilient Fishing explores this situation, the stories of its protagonists and the work developed to protect our fisheries.
Ubaldo Tume is one of hundreds of artisanal fishermen who go out to sea in the cove of Cabo Blanco, Piura. Today, they all face a major problem in common: climate change and its impact on the marine ecosystem.
Fishing was traditionally a man’s trade, and the coves of Cabo Blanco, Órganos and El Ñuro were no strangers to this reality. For decades, women were in charge of the household while their husbands, brothers or sons went out to sea in search of sustenance.
Meet El Ñuro, a cove located in Los Órganos, Piura, which for decades has sustained its economy through fishing, but today is reinventing itself with new economic activities such as experiential tourism; and together with the coastal marine adaptation project promoted by Profonanpe, with funding from the Adaptation Fund, they invite you to learn about these new experiences.
