Our Challenge

The high Andean communities are affected by climate change. Therefore, it is important to contribute to restoring and protecting this area, ensuring water security, and safeguarding the livelihoods and agricultural productivity of these communities.

The Puna Competitive Fund of the Resilient Puna Project, implemented by Profonanpe, will provide financing and technical assistance for local initiatives with the aim of preparing high Andean communities to face and adapt to climate change.

What is the Puna Competitive Fund?

It is the financial mechanism of the Resilient Puna project, which seeks to provide long-term funding to high Andean communities for local initiatives that integrate:

Climate-Resilient Value Chains (CRVCs)

Priority will be given to initiatives aimed at increasing the resilience of relevant Puna value chains to the effects of climate change, particularly those related to camelids (alpaca and vicuña) and high-Andean crops such as quinoa and native potato varieties. These initiatives can be complemented by linking these chains to the main value chains, which include guinea pigs, handicrafts, community-based tourism, and other crops such as tarwi, mashua, cañihua, kiwicha, Andean grains, and oca.

Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Measures

These are those that are intended to protect and restore the Puna ecosystem, such as the conservation and restoration of wetlands, qochas, agroforestry, infiltration ditches, restoration of terraces, among others.
