Location:

Loreto, Ucayali, Amazonas, San Martin, Huánuco and Madre de Dios

Loreto, Ucayali, Amazonas, San Martín, Huánuco, and Madre de Dios are key regions of the Peruvian Amazon, characterized by their rich biodiversity, tropical rainforests, and extensive rivers. These areas are home to numerous Indigenous communities and protected natural areas. Their economies are based on agriculture, fishing, forestry, and, in some cases, ecotourism. They also face challenges such as deforestation, illegal mining, and climate change.

Partners/Allies in the territory:

Inhabitants of the Peruvian Amazon

These are the local and indigenous communities that live in close relationship with the Amazonian ecosystems. They benefit from conservation projects, sustainable development initiatives, environmental education programs, and access to basic services. These initiatives aim to improve their quality of life, strengthen their livelihoods, and preserve their culture and territory.

More achievements
important to date

The project contributed to reducing deforestation in the Amazon, covering 4,588,677 hectares of forest, through various actions. Some of these were the following:

The formalization of agroforestry systems (SAF) was promoted under the modality of a contract of transfer in use (CUSAF), accompanied by the implementation of management programs and training for local actors.

Community Forest Management was strengthened through the formation of Community Forest Monitoring and Control Committees (CVCFC), the development of management plans, training and technical assistance to local actors.

The effective management of regional conservation areas (RCAs) was strengthened in terms of monitoring and control, capacity building of the local population, and the development of sustainable economic activities.

The Ministry of Culture was supported in monitoring Indigenous and territorial reserves, as well as in the enabling conditions required to strengthen the management of these territories.
