Profonanpe is Peru's environmental fund that provides innovative alternatives for environmental protection and sustainable development.
Amazonas, Apurímac, Junín, Tumbes and Ucayali These are priority regions that host Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) y Alliance for Zero Extinction (AZE) sites. These territories stand out for their unique biological richness and the presence of endemic and critically endangered species, making them strategic areas for conservation at the national and international levels. Their protection is fundamental to guaranteeing the survival of threatened species and the balance of vital ecosystems in Peru.
Community-based organizations, indigenous peoples, peasant communities and Afro-descendant communities, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and companies that are interested in the conservation of biodiversity at the landscape level in general.
On July 17, 2023, the first call for projects in Peru was launched. As a result of this call, six projects were selected and are being implemented through various organizations in six regions of Peru. This will allow for the creation of three Private Conservation Areas (ACP), three Regional Conservation Areas (ACR), and the expansion of three existing ACPs.
The Conserva Aves project also implemented a communication strategy for the dissemination and promotion of the contest results; created a landing page; prepared summary sheets with data on the winning projects; and trained partner organizations in the presentation of technical and financial information, as well as biological monitoring topics.
Conserva Aves developed its 2025 Annual Operating Plan and communications plan. Bezos's continued funding for the previous phase of the project was confirmed, as well as support from new donor Birds Canada to fund further opportunities.
