Good news. After 1 year of hard work and waiting, Profonanpe, the Peruvian Environmental Fund, obtained reaccreditation with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), an important global organization that channels financial resources for the implementation of climate action projects.
This recognition grants Profonanpe direct access to GCF funds to channel and execute climate change adaptation and mitigation projects. Thus, the institution becomes one of 79 entities worldwide, and the sole in Peru, to have access to these funds.
“The overall process took a little over a year, and the GCF decision took about 8 months. In our case, the assessment demonstrates that we rigorously met the standards required by the GCF,” stated Juana Kuramoto, head of Research and Development at Profonanpe and leader of the team in charge of the reaccreditation.
Juana Kuramoto led the team in charge of Profonanpe’s reaccreditation process with the Green Climate Fund.
As recalled, the institution received the first accreditation granted by the GCF in 2016. Two years later, it accessed a reaccreditation that allowed it to expand its activities and projects for the use of the fund, as well as to award grants to third parties. The reaccreditation received in March 2022 allows it to continue working with the GCF during the next 5 years, enabling it to apply for funding for new projects that combat climate change and contribute to the implementation of the environmental agenda in Peru.
“The guarantee of being an accredited entity also opens up new opportunities for us to other funds, since it places us as an entity that meets high standards,” remarked Kuramoto.
The reaccreditation of the GCF renews Profonanpe’s commitment as an institution specialized in creating, developing, and implementing innovative processes in technical administrative and fund management, and articulating with public and private stakeholders working in favor of biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaptation in Peru.
