“The challenge of conserving our planet requires the convergence of our will and our actions.” So said our CEO Anton Willems, who is currently in Marseille, France, as part of the IUCN World Conservation Congress, which opened yesterday, September 3.
The #IUCNCongress represents an opportunity where the world comes together to set priorities and drive actions for conservation and sustainable development. For this reason, representatives of governments, NGOs, indigenous peoples, businesses, experts and civil society from all over the planet have gathered to share experiences and knowledge, establish networks and create global partnerships for the conservation of nature.
The first day’s high-level panel was made up of leading figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron, who noted that: “There is no vaccine for a sick planet. The battle for the climate and against climate deregulation is inextricably linked to the preservation and restoration of biodiversity”.

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank and former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, was also part of the opening ceremony and emphasized the importance of our biodiversity: “Biodiversity and climate are two sides of the same coin.”
Also in attendance was actor Harrison Ford, who is known for his commitment to nature conservation, as well as his film career. In his speech he emphasized: “We have the ambition to find perfect solutions, perfect policies, nobody has that luxury anymore, we have to get down to work, we have to make things happen, we have to make things happen now”.
