With the aim of With the aim of publicizing the development opportunities in the Loreto region through the sustainable use of its natural resources, specifically the aguaje fruit, the National Seminar “Aguaje for life” was held, organized by Profonanpe within the framework of the Datem del Marañón Wetlands Project.
The Vice Minister of Strategic Resources of the Ministry of the Environment, Alfredo Mamani, and the CEO of Profonanpe, Anton Willems, inaugurated this event, which featured the participation of prominent speakers from the public and private sectors. The meeting was divided into five thematic panels where participants shared their experiences and research on the status of aguaje palms and other promising Amazonian palm species in Amazonian regions; technological innovation; process improvements for harvesting, transporting, and processing palm fruits; and access to national, regional, and global markets.

Through dialogue, the need to sustainably utilize the natural resources of wetlands, carbon-generating ecosystems, for the economic development of Indigenous communities and to promote other means that allow for continued innovation in production processes, making them more efficient, was confirmed. This will help mitigate the effects of climate change while simultaneously implementing actions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The National Seminar "Aguaje for Life" also provided an opportunity to share the various advances in the field through the voices of representatives from the public and private sectors, who presented some of the new strategies that the Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Sernanp, Regional Government of Loreto, Provincial Municipality of Datem del Marañón, Inacal, Gerfor, among others, are promoting to facilitate the development of aguaje, as well as other initiatives, including that of AJE, for the commercialization of products that sustainably utilize resources.

It is hoped that in the coming months, with the gradual return to normality, these types of events, spaces for horizontal dialogue and the search for solutions to the needs of the planet, can continue to be held.
