More than 200 partners trained in 8 Joint Declaration of Intent project workshops

The workshops held in six regions of the country strengthened local capacities in the fight against deforestation and climate change. With the participation of central government institutions, regional governments, and indigenous peoples, these events have enhanced the implementation of essential strategies and tools to protect our forests.

During the months of July and September, the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) Project, led by the Ministry of Environment and executed by Profonanpe, successfully organized eight workshops in Ucayali, Loreto, San Martín, Amazonas, Huánuco, and Madre de Dios, with two in Lima.

These events gathered a wide range of stakeholders, including regional governments and entities such as the Ministry of Environment, SERNANP, Ministry of Culture, SERFOR, as well as indigenous organizations, directors, heads, and specialists from the various departments involved in the project execution.

The first part of the workshops focused on the socialization and validation of safeguard instruments. The Stakeholder Mapping was presented and discussed to gather valuable inputs. Additionally, an open dialogue on the Grievance Mechanism was conducted, allowing for detailed exposure and the reception of constructive suggestions to improve the process.

Technical assistance was provided to components such as Community Forest Management and effective management of Regional Conservation Areas, particularly regarding reporting. Furthermore, gaps and bottlenecks were identified to achieve technical and financial goals.

Finally, the process map was updated, and lessons learned were documented to incorporate them as part of continuous improvement.

Evaluation and Learning

During the workshops, participants positively highlighted the gender and intercultural approach that the JDI Project has integrated into its activities. Many attendees noted that the project’s strategies and actions not only address deforestation and climate change but also consider gender equality and cultural diversity.

These workshops not only strengthen the capacity to respond to deforestation and climate change but also promote greater collaboration between the involved institutions and communities. The JDI Project continues to advance in its mission to reduce Greenhouse Gases (GHG) and mitigate the impact of climate change, supported by the commitment and active participation of all key stakeholders.
