Cooperativa Agraria Industrial Apasc Sancore Palcazú Ltda, specializing in the production of cocoa derivatives, is making a significant difference to the local economy and environmental conservation in the district of Palcazú. Located in the heart of the Oxapampa region, this agricultural cooperative not only grows high-quality cocoa, but also promotes sustainable practices that benefit both its members and the natural environment.

Many women, many of them single mothers, are also part of the cooperative. They make chocolates, chocolates, bonbons, cocoa paste and jellies, which they then sell to cover household expenses and their children’s education.

With a production that covers 500 hectares, its offer ranges from cocoa beans to cup chocolate and jams, with a focus on quality and sustainability: “Our proposal is to take care of our environment because that is what the organic program is, we work under non-pollution standards,” says Miriam Sánchez Ramírez, manager of the cooperative.

Since its founding in 2012, Sancore Palcazú has faced challenges, but its commitment to improvement and innovation has led them to win the fourth edition of the Entrepreneurs by Nature program. The cooperative managed to stand out for its focus on reforestation and income diversification through projects such as raising guinea pigs and planting fruit trees.

“We are very grateful for this opportunity, because every budget adds up, whether it is small or large,” adds Miriam, highlighting the importance of the support received from institutions such as Profonanpe and SERNANP.

This support will not only allow the company to continue with sustainable practices, but will also strengthen the cooperative’s commitment to the conservation of its environment, especially in areas such as the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park and the San Matías San Carlos Protected Forest.

Emprendedores por Naturaleza is a contest that promotes the responsible use of resources in Natural Protected Areas. The story of Sancore Palcazú is a clear example of how local initiatives can promote sustainability and generate a positive impact on the community, demonstrating that responsible production and environmental well-being can go hand in hand.
