What does COP16 mean for Peru?
From October 21 to November 1, 2024, Cali, Colombia, becomes the stage for the COP16, an event that brings together 196 countries with the common goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss. Peru's participation in this event reaffirms its commitment to conservation and highlights it as a key player in the protection of biodiversity at a global level.
Thus, under the direction of the Ministry of the Environment and with the support of allies such as Profonanpe, Peru inaugurated its Pavilion at COP16, a space that reflects the country's biological richness and its efforts for a more sustainable future. This achievement is made possible thanks to the collaboration of institutions that have contributed to hosting more than 60 side events at the Peru Pavilion. These include the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE), Cerro Verde Mining Company, UNACEM Group, PetroTal Peru, Pluspetrol (Camisea), AJE, LATAM Airlines, and German development cooperation implemented by GIZ.

A strategic alliance for conservation
Profonanpe, as Peru's environmental fund, has been a key player in the creation of this Pavilion, And over the next 12 days, she will participate in various sessions focused on conservation funding. Her presence reaffirms the importance of financial support for preserving our ecosystems and implementing sustainable projects.
According to Yuliana Castro, Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager at Profonanpe, “The commitment to biodiversity is not only the responsibility of the State, but of all actors involved in the country's sustainable development. Diverse dialogue and a participatory approach must prevail so that businesses, communities, civil society organizations, and the State have a common message for our Peruvian representation at COP 16.”.

Key themes in the Peru Pavilion
The Peru Pavilion will become a meeting point to address priority issues such as agrobiodiversity, food security, ecosystem restoration and species conservation. These efforts seek to promote innovative solutions that ensure a balance between economic development and environmental preservation.
By working together with our communities, we not only preserve biodiversity, but also strengthen the link between culture and nature, ensuring the conservation of our ecosystems for future generations., Deputy Minister Raquel Soto pointed this out.
COP16 marks a milestone for Peru by positioning its biodiversity as a global asset, and Profonanpe's participation in this edition reinforces its role as one of the leading promoters of sustainability in the region. This event will also be an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships and mobilize resources to ensure the implementation of long-term projects.
