The Association of artisans who collect ecological logs from Boca Manu and Isla de los Valle received recognition as the winner of the Entrepreneurs by Nature contest

The enterprise received a check for its work in the sustainable use of natural resources in the Manu National Park Protected Natural Area

This Tuesday, the recognition was given to the Association of artisans who collect ecological logs from Boca Manu and Isla de los Valles, in Cusco, one of the winning projects of the second edition of the “Entrepreneurs by Nature” competition. 

The event took place in Cusco, in the Manu National Park (PNM), where the Association of artisans who collect ecological logs from Boca Manu and Isla de los Valles It carries out its activities, which are based on transforming and developing the construction of wooden boats in the PNM. At the site, the Entrepreneurs by Nature fund was awarded to the Association of Artisan Log Collectors, which was delivered by the Director of Management of Protected Natural Areas of Sernanp, José Carlos Nieto, and the executive director of Profonanpe, Anton Willems.

The initiative “Entrepreneurs by Nature”This competition aims to promote and strengthen private initiatives for the sustainable use of natural resources linked to protected natural areas. “It is very important that you see us as an ally to boost your ventures through the financial support provided in this competition, and we appreciate that the impact of our team's work is reflected in the activities you carry out,” commented Anton Williems, executive director of Profonanpe.

For his part, José Carlos Nieto, Director of Protected Natural Area Management at SERNANP, highlighted that Emprendedores por Naturaleza (Entrepreneurs by Nature) was created to promote and strengthen private enterprises for the sustainable use of resources in protected natural areas. This initiative is driven by the Ministry of the Environment through SERNANP and funded by Profonanpe. «We congratulate the Association of Artisan Log Collectors of Boca Manu and Isla de los Valles. The incentive they received will allow them to consolidate their business, which utilizes high-value logs without cutting down a single tree.».

 

The Ecological Log Collectors Association aims to consolidate the efficient use of trees carried by the Manu River, making the most of the natural resources offered by the National Park. It is hoped that, in the future, the association's production of wooden boats will have better market access, and that they will continue working closely with the Protected Natural Area (ANP).
