Profonanpe and Consorcio Kowen Antami sign alliance for conservation of protected areas and sustainable development of Ashaninka and Yanesha communities

The Kowen Antami Consortium and Profonanpe signed an agreement to promote the conservation of the San Matías San Carlos Protected Forest and the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park. The signing took place on September 19 at Profonanpe’s facilities.

This collaboration agreement seeks to strengthen the management of the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park (PNYCH) and the San Matías San Carlos Protected Forest (BPSMSC) by working together to implement long-term sustainability strategies.

 

The Kowen Antami Consortium, made up of Sustainable Rural Development (DRIS), the Association of Asháninka Communities of the Pichis Valley (ANAP) and the Association for the Conservation and Management of the Yanesha Communal Reserve (AMARCY) and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP) have signed the Administration Contract for the Yanachaga Chemillen National Park – PNYCH and the San Matías San Carlos Protected Forest – BPSMSC.

Profonanpe reaffirms its commitment with biodiversity

 

This agreement reaffirms Profonanpe’s commitment to biodiversity conservation and the development of indigenous communities, promoting an innovative model of co-management in which indigenous organizations play a central role in the administration of protected areas.

 

This is the first time that a consortium including indigenous organizations has signed a management contract for non-communal protected areas, marking a milestone in environmental management in the country.
