One week after the infamous spill of 6,000 barrels of oil in the sea off Ventanilla, several organizations have been working hand in hand with Sernanp and Serfor to coordinate the necessary donations to contain and remedy the damage.
“All civil organizations have joined together to present a single channel for receiving donations that conveys security and transparency in order to achieve the urgent goal of multiplying donations,” commented Anton Willems, CEO of Profonanpe. “RecuperoMiMar.com is the result of the teamwork that today all organizations and citizen movements must show to overcome this environmental tragedy that is undoubtedly one of the most horrendous in the history of our Peru.”
Any citizen or organization wishing to contribute to the clean-up of our sea and/or the rehabilitation of the affected fauna, should enter the website www.RecuperoMiMar.com and choose the donation format they prefer: credit card, debit card, bank transfer, Yape or PayPal. “Even a donation of one sol is welcome. We urge all our compatriots to log on to the website and make a single effort to get our sea back as soon as possible,” Willems stated.
The first organizations to promote “RecuperoMiMar” are, in addition to Profonanpe: Oceana, SPDA, Conservamos por Naturaleza, SOA, ecOceánica, H2O Océanos and Lucha Startup Studio. However, it is important to emphasize that more than twenty organizations and civil collectives have been making diverse efforts. In that sense, any organization wishing to join “RecuperoMiMar” should write to ycastro@profonanpe.org.pe.
Profonanpe is a private environmental fund that in the past has already channeled funds to help rescue centers by leading the “They need us too” campaign in conjunction with Serfor. Likewise, together with Sernanp, it has led the campaign “Sponsor a taricaya, conserve Pacaya” to help the families of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, ensuring that funds are transferred in a coordinated and articulated manner with public institutions.
100% of the donations to “RecuperoMiMar” will be destined to beach clean-up activities in the first instance and to wildlife rehabilitation. “Through the fundraising platform, users will be able to see the goal we are reaching to ensure that everyone knows what we are collectively raising,” stated the collective’s spokespersons.
Companies are invited to join this initiative led by environmental organizations and thus contribute to the recovery of our sea.
“It is important to emphasize that this initiative in no way exonerates REPSOL or the responsible authorities but rather seeks to complement, from a citizen’s perspective, the restoration activities.”
