90 young people seek to form network of agrobiodiversity conservationist farmers

From Cusco, Apurimac, Puno, Huancavelica and Arequipa, they will be promoters of the GIAHS approach.

September 2021.- Young farmers from Lares seek to create a network of agrobiodiversity conservationist farmers in Cusco, Puno, Huancavelica, Apurimac and Arequipa. This after a ceremony of recognition to the Pachamama.

This network is being implemented with the support of the GEF-Agrobiodiversity GIAHS project, promoted by Profonanpe, the Ministry of the Environment (Minam), the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), with the support of Slow Food Peru.

Thus, on Monday, September 27, Lares-Cusco was the scene of the first of five meetings to be held between September and November of this year, whose main objective is to generate networks of young people committed to conservation under the GIAHS approach, which motivate the production, consumption, and marketing of agrobiodiversity products. It should be noted that 21 young people from the localities of Ancallachi, Ccachin, Pampacorral, Choquecancha and Rosaspata participated in this first meeting, a group made up of 11 men and 10 women.

These regional meetings of young farmers are a replica of the Sisay meetings, organized every two years by the Slow Food Volunteer Network in Peru, which have been designed as a meeting and learning space for young people involved in agriculture and sustainable food in various roles: farmers, producers, agronomists, food processors and entrepreneurs.
