Crab processing
The Consorcio Manglares del Noroeste del Perú (CMNP) is made up of 6 local productive organizations, which are made up of workers dedicated to the management and extraction of hydrobiological resources. Due to the high demand for red mangrove crab, there is great pressure on the resource, which is why the consortium wishes to implement strategies that will allow it to adapt to the restrictions established to protect the resource, and thus give added value to the product harvested during authorized seasons.
The project to be financed is part of the effective management strategy of Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary and is aimed at increasing the income of hydrobiological resource extractors that have pre-existing rights in the protected area.
Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary (Buffer Zone)
50 mangrove crab extractors belonging to the associations ASEPROHI and ASEXTRHI, part of the Manglares del Noroeste Consortium within the Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary.
Design and implement accessible technologies for processing mangrove crab to add value to the product extracted in an artisanal manner and have a favorable impact on the income of the extractors in the Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary.
- Management of the red crab extractive activity based on the zoning of sectors by association involved. - Consolidation of the supply of the product extracted in the SNLMT. - Transformation of the product through heat treatment technologies and obtaining frozen crab pulp and/or paste. - Design and operation of the marketing system based on the profile of the processed product obtained.
