Sustainable management of chestnuts
It is closely linked to the sustainable use of natural resources in the Bahuaja Sonene National Park (PNBS) Protected Natural Area (ANP) and its purpose is the sustainable extraction of Brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa) under harvesting contracts.
Bahuaja Sonene National Park
Association of Castañeros de la Reserva Tambopata - Los Pioneros (ASCART): It was founded in 2001 in parallel to the creation of the Tambopata National Reserve Protected Natural Area (ANP). Today, they have managed to take charge of the entire production and commercialization chain, exporting Brazil nuts directly. The association has 37 full members, of which 20 (54%) are women, and a board of directors composed of 4 members, of which 50% are women (president and secretary). During the extraction process - which lasts on average 4 months - 222 people (10% women) work for the association, and 90 people (75 women) work in the plant.

Strengthen and promote the development of the association of entrepreneurial families that are betting on conservation, thanks to the sustainable use of Brazil nuts in the Tambopata National Reserve and Bahuaja Sonene National Park, with a focus on conservation and resilience building.

Improvement of chestnut quality standards by focusing on the drying and peeling processes.
