The Huanuco region continues to consolidate its progress in the formalization of sustainable agroforestry systems with the delivery of 220 Contracts of Assignment in Use for Agroforestry Systems (CCUSAF) to 142 producers in the provinces of Huanuco and Pachitea. The enabling titles were handed over during a ceremony held in Huánuco, with the participation of the beneficiaries of the process.
This new delivery formalizes 634 hectares for the development of productive activities under a sustainable approach, promoting soil recovery, responsible land use and the conservation of forest ecosystems.
The CCUSAFs, established in the Forestry and Wildlife Law, make it possible to formalize agricultural, forestry, livestock and recovery activities on forested and protected lands, providing legal security to producer families and promoting practices that are compatible with forest conservation.
Of the total number of contracts awarded, 87 correspond to the district of Chinchao, in the province of Huánuco, benefiting 63 farmers on 238 hectares; while 133 were awarded in the district of Panao, province of Pachitea, for 79 beneficiaries on 396 hectares.
As part of this event, specialized equipment was also delivered to the Technical Forestry and Wildlife Administration (ATFFS) Huánuco to strengthen field work related to the granting of CCUSAF. The equipment included drones, high-precision GPS and GNSS equipment and a Starlink satellite connectivity kit, tools that will help facilitate and improve the quality of technical information gathering, land georeferencing and land management.

With this delivery, Huanuco reaches 5,267 hectares formalized under CCUSAF between 2024 and 2026, surpassing the goal projected by the ICD Project for the period and positioning itself as one of the regions with the greatest progress in the implementation of agroforestry systems in the Peruvian Amazon.
About the Joint Statement of Intent (JIU), its Financial Mechanism and the JIU Project
The Joint Declaration of Intent (JIU) is a voluntary cooperation agreement signed in 2014 by the governments of Peru, Norway and Germany, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. In the addendum signed for the period 2021-2025, the United Kingdom joined the agreement.
The ICD has a Financial Mechanism, administered by Profonananpe, which manages the resources for the implementation of its phases. Within this framework, the ICD Project is currently being executed, which contributes to the implementation of the Updated Plan 2021-2025. It is led by the Ministry of Environment and executed by Profonanpe, with funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) through the Norwegian International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), and the participation as implementing partners of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through SERFOR; Sernanp; the Ministry of Culture; the regional governments of San Martin, Huanuco, Ucayali, Loreto, Amazonas and Madre de Dios; and the indigenous organizations AIDESEP, CONAP and ANECAP.
