Profonanpe and the National Chamber of Tourism of Peru sign an alliance to promote the sustainability of the tourism sector

This agreement is made within the framework of the Donation Agreement for the XXV RedLAC Congress 2023 in Cusco, Peru, with the objective of supporting the sustainability of the tourism sector through the execution of events and projects.

On Thursday, April 22, José Koechlin, President of the National Chamber of Tourism – CANATUR, and Anton Willems, CEO of Profonanpe, met to join efforts to promote collaboration between both entities to impact the areas of influence of tourism activities, designing joint initiatives and seeking financing for their implementation.

As part of the organization of the XXV RedLAC Congress 2023, the importance of carefully selecting a strategic venue has been recognized, given that this congress annually brings together leading environmental funds, international cooperation agencies, and the public sector. Furthermore, it aims to continue strengthening Peru's international profile as a key ally in implementing the regional environmental agenda and as an attractive tourist destination that promotes nature conservation and the sustainability of life.

Given that Cusco is home to several globally significant protected natural areas, including the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, this city has been chosen as the main venue to address key aspects of the sustainable management of these areas in Latin America and the Caribbean. Profonanpe's experience in channeling and managing financial resources, in close collaboration with the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (SERNANP), will serve as a starting point for knowledge sharing.

This agreement will enable the development of joint initiatives that promote sustainability throughout the tourism sector's value chain. This includes organizing conferences, forums, and awareness programs, as well as designing technical assistance and training programs to boost human capital development in the areas involved. Furthermore, it will foster the exchange of valuable information between the parties and seek funding to generate an impact in the areas affected by the joint activities.

Yuliana Castro, Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager of Profonanpe, Anton Willems, CEO of Profonanpe, José Koechlin, President of Canatur, Luis Torres, Corporate Affairs Manager of the San Ignacio de Loyola University and Carlos Loayza, Marketing Manager of CANATUR, agree on the bases to carry out, in Cusco, the XXIII RedLac Congress 2023.
