Efforts continue to be combined from various sectors for the prompt environmental recovery of the protected natural areas affected by the oil spill that occurred last Saturday, January 15, at the multi-buoy terminal No. 2 of the La Pampilla refinery in Ventanilla.
This time at Profonanpe, Peru's environmental fund, we have enabled a line of financing intended to reinforce the actions being developed by the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp), an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment, in response to the environmental emergency currently registered in the Pescadores Islets of the National Reserve System of Islands, Islets and Guano Points and in the Ancón Reserved Zone.
These resources will be used entirely to rehabilitate ecosystems, safeguard wildlife species, contain the effects of the spill, and ensure the cleanup of beaches in both protected natural areas.
Additionally, a team of our environmental remediation experts from the Environmental Liabilities Program Management has been assigned to provide technical advice to Sernanp.
It is worth remembering that since the alert issued by Sernanp on January 18, a series of actions have been deployed that to this day continue to be led by park ranger and specialist personnel for the recovery of ecosystems and biodiversity affected by the oil spill in the Pescadores Islets and the Ancón Reserved Zone.
As part of these actions, a permanent assessment of the extent of the spill is being carried out, as well as cleaning efforts that have so far allowed the removal of nearly 2,000 gallons of oil from Pocitas beach in the Ancón Reserved Zone.
