For the second year in a row, the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp), an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment, and Profonanpe, the Environmental Fund of Peru, carried out the Entrepreneurs for Nature contest, an initiative that seeks to promote ventures that develop activities in the area of protected natural areas, and that contribute to their conservation, thus generating economic and social development in these spaces.

In this second edition, a total of S/1,519,430 soles was allocated, an amount with which the reactivation and improvement of 27 ventures that were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and that today seek to enhance their activities will be financed.

Each of the winning ventures will receive individual funding of between 30,000 and 60,000 soles. The beneficiaries of the competition are Peruvian individuals and legal entities with businesses established for more than two years, 30% of which are led by women entrepreneurs from various parts of the country.

These initiatives are being developed in 22 protected natural areas, including Manu National Park, Alto Mayo Protection Forest, Tambopata National Reserve, and Nor Yauyos Cochas Landscape Reserve, among other protected spaces in 15 regions. The themes chosen for this edition were tourism, the sustainable use of natural resources such as coffee and cacao, handicrafts, and the production of products made from fish and plant-based leather.
