For the third year, the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp), an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment, launched from November 4 to 18 its grant competition for priority research in Peru's natural protected areas.
This initiative seeks to provide financial support to young researchers for the development of studies that contribute to the generation of fundamental scientific information for the effective management of protected natural areas, the conservation of their biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable activities through the use of natural resources.
For this second phase of the Scholarship Program 2022, a fund of S/. 77 thousand soles has been allocated, with financing from the GEF Guaneras Trust Fund, Paracas Fund, managed in coordination with Camisea and Profonanpe.
As part of the second phase of the 2022 edition, up to 13 research grants will be funded: 10 in national protected natural areas, 2 in the Paracas National Reserve and 1 in the National Reserve System of Islands, Islets and Puntas Guaneras.

The competition is aimed at researchers of Peruvian nationality, graduates of a university career with no more than two years of seniority, from national or foreign public and private universities.
The area of study of the research projects must include nationally administered protected natural areas and must be related to research priorities in the following thematic areas: environmental, economic and social. The grants awarded will have a maximum execution period of no more than seven months.
The winners will be announced on November 23 on Sernanp's website (www.gob.pe/sernanp)

This initiative seeks to implement the programs, projects and activities contained in the Master Plan for the National Reserve System of Islands, Islets and Guano Points along the Peruvian coast from Piura to Tacna.
This project is financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), administered by Profonanpe and executed by Sernanp.
About the Paracas Patrimony Fund
This initiative seeks to implement the programs, projects and activities contained in the Paracas National Reserve Master Plan, benefiting 7,000 local fishermen and their families, 3,000 tourism service providers and 200,000 tourists.
It is financed by PlusPetrol through the Camisea Consortium. This fund is administered by Profonananpe and Sernanp plays the role of executor.
