With the aim of promoting sustainable management of natural resources and strengthening conservation in the Peruvian Amazon, the project “Contribution to the Updated DCI Implementation Plan 2021-2025” (DCI Project), led by MINAM and implemented by Profonanpe, organized a series of training workshops in the regions of Amazonas, Loreto, and Ucayali.
These events featured the participation of officials and technical teams from the regional governments of Ucayali, Amazonas, and Loreto as implementing partners and brought together regional authorities and specialists to address gaps in the management and reporting of results, thereby strengthening conservation and sustainable management efforts in the Peruvian Amazon.
Commitment to Conservation and Forest Management
The workshops were aimed at uniformizar estrategias y metodologías para abordar brechas identificadas en la gestión de Áreas de Conservación, centrándose en la reportabilidad de resultados y compromisos asumidos.
In addition, participants discussed and validated essential tools such as stakeholder mapping and the complaints and grievances mechanism. In addition, technical assistance was provided on the strategy for agroforestry systems (AFS) and community forest management (CFM) and the updating of management tools such as the process map and technical data sheets.
Finally, the participants identified gaps in the technical and financial objectives and discussed possible solutions to address bottlenecks in the project’s implementation.

Strengthening Local Capacity
“Collaboration between regional authorities and local communities is essential to the success of our conservation initiatives,” said Cecilia Flores, DCI Project Manager. “These spaces are an important step toward strengthening the management of our conservation areas and promoting the sustainable management of our natural resources,”she said.
The DCI Project remains committed to working closely with local authorities and communities in Amazonas, Loreto, and Ucayali to ensure the efficient and sustainable management of regional conservation areas. These workshops represent a significant effort toward achieving conservation and environmental sustainability goals in the Peruvian Amazon.
In addition, this series of workshops marks the first phase of a comprehensive training initiative, which will continue in August in the regions of Huánuco, San Martín, and Madre de Dios.
Regarding the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) – Phase 2:
The Joint Declaration of Intent is a voluntary cooperation agreement signed by the governments of Peru, Norway, and Germany in 2014 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation. With the signing of this addendum, the United Kingdom joins the commitment by 2025, and USAID participates as an observer.
The DCI is led by the Ministry of the Environment and implemented by Profonanpe, with the participation of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, through SERFOR; the Ministry of Economy and Finance; the Ministry of Culture; the regional governments of San Martín, Huánuco, Ucayali, Loreto, Amazonas, and Madre de Dios; and the indigenous organizations AIDESEP, CONAP, and ANECAP. It also receives funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).
