New environmental financing opportunities in June

Biodiversity conservation, climate action, scientific research, technological innovation, sustainable finance and capacity building are some of the areas for which funding will be available in June 2026.

  • Call for EDGE Fellowship 2027. This program supports early-career conservationists who are leading actions to protect evolutionarily distinct and globally threatened species (EDGE). It offers funding, training, mentoring and technical support to develop locally-led conservation projects, strengthening capacities and long-term networks. Deadline: June 10. Apply here.

 

  • UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Conservation. This award recognizes outstanding contributions of individuals, groups or organizations in the conservation and sustainable management of the environment. It is aimed at initiatives that promote research, environmental education, public awareness or the protection of ecosystems and natural areas, in line with UNESCO's objectives. Closing date: June 15.   • COP31 Climate Change Media Partnership Reporting Fellowship for Journalists. This call supports journalists and content creators from low- and middle-income countries to cover the UN COP31 on Climate Change and bring the global climate negotiations closer to their local audiences.   • BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards. The nineteenth edition of these awards recognizes contributions to top-level research and artistic creation, outstanding for their originality, relevance and impact.   • GOT BAG Care Collective Fund.   • RELX Environmental Challenge. This call recognizes innovative projects that contribute to expanding sustainable access to safe drinking water, sanitation and ocean protection.   • Startup Challenge 2026. This call seeks to identify and strengthen startups with social and environmental impact that have validated solutions and growth potential. It is aimed at early-stage or expanding ventures working in areas such as climate technology, energy, sustainable agriculture, food systems, smart cities, mobility, health and social inclusion.   • UNEP Special Program. This call for proposals finances projects that strengthen institutional capacities for the sustainable management of chemicals and wastes, promoting regulatory reforms, financing mechanisms and compliance with international environmental commitments.   • Reece Foundation Grant. This grant supports local initiatives that help communities in Australia and overseas gain access to clean water, sanitation or food security through irrigation. Closing date: No closing date. Apply here.

 

  • Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation. The DRK Foundation funds early-stage social impact organizations that solve the world's biggest social and environmental problems through innovative and scalable approaches. Deadline: No deadline. Apply here.

 

  • Grants from Rapid Response Facility (RRF). The Rapid Response Facility (RRF) provides emergency support to natural World Heritage sites in times of crisis. The RRF is a partnership between the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Fauna & Flora International (FFI). RRF grants are available for natural UNESCO World Heritage sites. The RRF only funds actions at a site facing an 'emergency' threat to its biodiversity. They do not fund ongoing problems, even if they require urgent action. Apply here.

 

  • Support from Rainforest Trust. This call for proposals finances projects aimed at the creation or expansion of protected areas in currently unprotected territories, with the objective of conserving key biodiversity. It is aimed at legally registered organizations with experience in conservation, that promote sustainable livelihoods and have institutional backing. Deadline: No deadline. Apply here.

 

  • Rufford Grants Program. This grant program offers funding for nature conservation projects in the developing world. There are five consecutive funding schemes: the Rufford Small Grant, the 2nd Rufford Small Grant, the Booster Grant, the 2nd Booster Grant, and the Completion Grant. The primary requirement is that the work must be pragmatic in nature and have a substantial and lasting impact on the issue at hand (conservation). A significant human element is often present in a successful proposal, with community education and engagement being crucial. The Foundation has a broad scope of interest. In addition to the conservation of animals in their natural habitats, it also seeks to support conservation work focused on threatened habitats and other organisms such as plants, fungi, and insects.
