New environmental financing opportunities in August

Biodiversity conservation, climate action, scientific research, technological innovation, sustainable finance, and capacity building are some of the areas for which funding will be available in August 2026.

Discover opportunities that can boost conservation and sustainable development!

  • The Bloomberg Green Docs: A competition that selects and awards prizes to documentary short films of up to 10 minutes in length that address topics related to nature, global warming, the environment, or the outdoors. It seeks to highlight the filmmaker’s voice, originality, and the productions’ potential to spark conversation and dialogue on environmental issues. The winner will receive a prize of US$25,000, and the selected entries may be screened at the festival. Submission deadline: August 14. Apply here.

  • Global Innovation Challenge: This call for proposals supports and funds projects led by young people aged 18 to 30 that generate a positive and measurable social or environmental impact, aligned with at least one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It seeks to promote innovative, viable, and scalable initiatives with the potential to drive systemic change, and offers opportunities for funding, mentoring, and visibility. Deadline: August 31. Apply here.

  • Rising Explorers Grant: This scholarship provides funding to high school and undergraduate students from around the world who have a scientific proposal aimed at generating new knowledge through field research. It supports projects in fields such as biology, ecology, wildlife conservation, environmental sciences, archaeology, anthropology, and marine and freshwater studies, providing resources for young explorers to carry out their research and advance their careers in science. Application deadline: August 31. Apply here.

  • Biodiv’Sport Grant Program 2026 – Play for Nature: This call for proposals funds biodiversity conservation projects that incorporate sports as a tool for protecting threatened species and raising awareness among local communities. It is aimed at civil society organizations with proven experience in conservation and prioritizes initiatives that actively involve local communities. Projects must focus on at least one threatened species listed on the IUCN Red List and combine sports activities with conservation efforts. Deadline: August 16. Apply here.

  • True Blue Scholarship: This grant supports young people ages 16 to 24 from around the world who are developing projects to address issues related to the oceans, waterways, or climate change in their communities. The initiatives must use the creative arts as their primary tool for driving environmental change and may be developed by individuals, groups, or organizations. In addition to funding, the The program offers opportunities for collaboration and mentorship through the Future Blue Youth Council (FBYC) and the Bow Seat team. Application deadline: August 30. Apply here.

  • Reece Foundation Grant. This grant supports local initiatives that help communities in Australia and overseas gain access to clean water, sanitation or food security through irrigation. Closing date: No closing date. Apply here.

  • Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation. The DRK Foundation funds early-stage social impact organizations that solve the world's biggest social and environmental problems through innovative and scalable approaches. Deadline: No deadline. Apply here.

  • Grants from Rapid Response Facility (RRF). The Rapid Response Facility (RRF) provides emergency support to natural World Heritage sites in times of crisis. The RRF is a partnership between the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and Fauna & Flora International (FFI). RRF grants are available for natural UNESCO World Heritage sites. The RRF only funds actions at a site facing an 'emergency' threat to its biodiversity. They do not fund ongoing problems, even if they require urgent action. Apply here.

  • Support from Rainforest Trust. This call for proposals finances projects aimed at the creation or expansion of protected areas in currently unprotected territories, with the objective of conserving key biodiversity. It is aimed at legally registered organizations with experience in conservation, that promote sustainable livelihoods and have institutional backing. Deadline: No deadline. Apply here.

  • Rufford Grants Program. This grant program offers funding for nature conservation projects in the developing world. There are five consecutive funding schemes: the Rufford Small Grant, the 2nd Rufford Small Grant, the Booster Grant, the 2nd Booster Grant, and the Completion Grant. The primary requirement is that the work must be pragmatic in nature and have a substantial and lasting impact on the issue at hand (conservation). A significant human element is often present in a successful proposal, with community education and engagement being crucial. The Foundation has a broad scope of interest. In addition to the conservation of animals in their natural habitats, it also seeks to support conservation work focused on threatened habitats and other organisms such as plants, fungi, and insects.
