Profonanpe, commissioned by the Board of Directors of the Contingency Fund for Environmental Remediation, has initiated the process of calling for independent and qualified consulting firms, alone or in consortium, with the objective of providing consulting services for the preparation of Rehabilitation Plans for 12 sites impacted by hydrocarbon activities in the Marañón River basin. In this way, the process of environmental remediation of impacted sites in this area begins, which have affected the health and environment of native communities located within the scope of the aforementioned prioritized sites. Regarding the Contingency Fund for Environmental Remediation
Through Law No. 30321, the Contingency Fund for Environmental Remediation was created, whose geographical scope is located in the basins of the Pastaza, Tigre, Corrientes and Marañón rivers of the Loreto department.
Additionally, a Board of Directors was created, the body responsible for monitoring, reporting, and periodically disseminating the results of the implemented environmental remediation measures. The Board of Directors is composed of representatives from the Corrientes, Tigre, Pastaza, and Marañón river basins—the Quechua Indigenous Federation of the Pastaza (FEDIQUEP), the Federation of Native Communities of the Corrientes River (FECONACOR), the Federation of Native Communities of the Upper Tigre (FECONAT), and the Cocama Association for Development and Conservation of San Pablo de Tipishca (ACODECOSPAT)—as well as representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Mines; the Ministry of the Environment; the Ministry of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation; the Ministry of Health; and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.
Profonanpe has held the role of Technical, Administrative and Financial Secretariat of the Contingency Fund since January 2020.
