Specifically, Blanco, representative of Profonanpe, highlighted the work being done in the remediation of sites impacted by hydrocarbon activities in Loreto, in partnership with the Hub of Mining Innovation of Peru.

“It’s an urgent issue. The impacts on people’s health, the environment, and life itself are evident to all of us. That’s why it’s so urgent,” he noted. “The debt is enormous. That’s why the challenge we face as a country compels us to look at this collaborative approach,” he added.

“We have to ensure that the techniques used worldwide are appropriate in Peru. But not only technically, but also socially and culturally, which constantly challenge us,” he said. “It’s not about remedying or continuing to remedy. It’s about prevention,” he concluded.

Call for proposals for the development of remediation plans

Currently, it is being carried out the process of calling for independent and qualified consultants, alone or in consortium for the development of rehabilitation plans for 12 sites contaminated by hydrocarbons.

This application process concludes on September 27 and consists of two stages: prequalification and selection. You can find more information about the selection process instructions, the application forms for interested consultants, and the terms of reference., here.

Alliance for Nature

In July of this year, Profonanpe and the Mining Innovation Hub signed an alliance to promote the sustainable development of Peru through projects that generate value for and from the mining industry.

With this agreement, both institutions are making efforts to deploy activities such as: open innovation calls to solve challenges in the mining sector in accordance with the regulations issued by the environmental sector and which are part of national and international commitments on this subject; discussion forums on topics relevant to the mining and environmental sectors; training spaces designed to promote knowledge and a culture of innovation and collaboration; and spaces focused on the following topics of value to the mining sector and the environment in which it operates.

The collaborative spirit of the Mining Innovation Hub of Peru and the mining sector's quest to be recognized as an environmentally responsible industry see in this alliance a further opportunity to address guidelines that benefit the local industry.
