CEPF updates the information on the Ecosystem Profile of the Tropical Andes Biodiversity Hotspot

In order to guide the next investment phase in the Andes Tropicales Hotspot, CEPF and the team led by ProNaturaleza (Peru) are carrying out the process of updating the ecosystem profile.

This will allow update CEPF's investment strategy in the region for a period of five years (2021-2026)This will allow to update CEPF’s investment strategy in the region for a period of five years (2021-2026) ; identify shared objectives and strategies between civil society organizations, governments and donors ; take advantage of emerging opportunities ; and address conservation challenges.seize emerging opportunitiesand address the challenges to conservation.

 

The process will take into account the results and impacts of the investments made in the previous phases of the program, as well as an update of the ecological, political and socioeconomic information in the region through research and extensive consultation with specialists, scientists and stakeholders. involved in biodiversity conservation in the Hotspot.

 

The goal is to update the profile through the participation of key actors, such as civil society, indigenous communities, governments, among others. In addition, it will collect information through surveys and national virtual meetings. Thus, the process will ensure that new investments respond to the needs, opportunities and threats in the Tropical Andes Hotspot under the current context.

 

This challenge, which has an implementation period of nine months and which began in July 2020, is assumed by a consortium of multidisciplinary institutions with a presence in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The process is led by Pronaturaleza – Fundación Peruana por la Conservación de la Naturaleza (PER) en association with Practical Action (BOL, PER), Arcoiris Ecological Foundation (EC), Birdlife International (UK) as Secretariat of KBA Internacional (BOL, COL, ECU, PER) and Panthera Colombia (COL). They will have the support and advice of the Regional Implementation Team ( Natural Heritage Fund in Colombia and Bolivia, Fundación Futuro Latinoamericano in Ecuador and Profonanpe in Peru). Furthermore, CEPF, in addition to financing this process, will be in charge of supervising all aspects of its execution.
