More than 20 businesses in protected natural areas gain access to funding after winning the Entrepreneurs by Nature award.

Eight of these ventures are led by women, thus revaluing their important role in the conservation of protected natural areas, as well as the development and improvement of the quality of life of their communities.

A total of 21 ventures that are developing sustainably within the national protected natural areas will have access to financial support to enhance and optimize their activities, as they are winners of the third edition of the Entrepreneurs for Nature contest, an initiative promoted by the National Service of Natural Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp), an agency attached to the Ministry, and Profonanpe, Peru's environmental fund.

 

Through this support, the winning ventures gain access to financing totaling one and a half million soles, with each receiving between 30,000 and 70,000 soles, which must be executed within a maximum period of 12 months.

 

The winning projects of this third edition are located in the national parks Tingo María, Ichigkat Muja-Cordillera del Cóndor, Bahuaja Sonene and Cordillera Azul; the national reserves Pacaya Samiria and Tambopata; the national sanctuaries Tabaconas Namballe, Cordillera de Colán and Los Manglares de Tumbes; the Alto Mayo Protection Forest and the Yanesha Communal Reserve.

 

Similarly, in the Oxapampa Asháninka Yánesha Biosphere Reserve (which includes the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park, the El Sira Communal Reserve and the San Matías San Carlos Protection Forest); the regional conservation areas of Sistemas Lomas de Lima and Cordillera Escalera; and the private conservation areas of Bosque de Palmeras de la Comunidad Campesina de Taulia Molinopampa and La Huerta de Chaparri.

 

38 of the winning % projects are led by women, thus fulfilling one of the main objectives of this initiative, which is to revalue the important role of women in the conservation of protected natural areas and the development of sustainable businesses that contribute to improving the quality of life of the populations living in their environment.

Sustainability Initiative

This competition is developed within the framework of the Program for Conservation and Sustainable Development (PROCODES), an initiative that seeks to promote the conservation of biodiversity and contribute to economic and social development in the area of protected natural areas through a strategy of management and sustainable use of natural resources and environmental services and to promote the effective management of these spaces with a territorial approach.

In its first two editions, Emprendedores por Naturaleza has contributed to the financing of 37 projects in the area of protected areas for an amount of more than 2 million soles, benefiting more than 900 people and strengthening the work with 62 indigenous and peasant communities nationwide.
