In this second edition, 73 applications were received from six Amazonian regions, confirming the continuity and strength of the ecosystem of actors promoting this initiative. Madre de Dios once again led the participation with 34 applications, followed by Satipo (16), Cusco (9), Ucayali (8), Puno (4) and Apurímac (2).
Of the total number of applications, 50 correspond to financing Option 1, aimed at projects of up to S/200,000 and a maximum duration of three years, while the remaining 23 belong to Option 2, aimed at initiatives of greater scope with higher amounts of up to S/1’250,000 and an execution of up to five years.
The diversity of participating actors reflects the scope and representativeness of the fund. In this second edition, non-governmental organizations, indigenous communities, cooperatives, associations, community enterprises, universities, private organizations and individuals submitted proposals focused on conservation, sustainable use of resources and landscape management.

A noteworthy aspect is the growing participation of women leading projects: 28 proposals are headed by women, 5 of which come from indigenous organizations or communities. In addition, another 3 applications have indigenous people as coordinators or main coordinators, which reinforces the Fund's intercultural and equity approach.
“This level of response confirms that there is an ecosystem of attentive, committed and capable actors in the Southern Amazon. The organizations know their territories and are developing concrete solutions to conserve them,” said Cecilia Huamanchumo, head of the Tropical Forests project.
The 73 admissibility applications received will be evaluated by an Internal Evaluation Committee in charge of Profonanpe. Following this process, the Fund's Oversight Committee will be convened for approval and subsequent publication on the competition's website. Admitted entities will be eligible for the next phase of presentation of subprojects, which will be submitted for external evaluation by experts in each area.
In its first call, held in May 2025, the competitive fund received 111 applications and 46 were admitted in the admission phase corresponding to initiatives in Madre de Dios, Cusco, Ucayali, Satipo, Apurimac and Puno. These proposals are currently in the process of technical evaluation.

Bosques Tropicales thus reaffirms its commitment to the protection of Amazonian ecosystems, gender equity and the strengthening of local communities, within the framework of the Debt-for-Nature Swap Agreement between the governments of Peru and the United States.
Profonananpe, Peru's environmental fund, is the administrator of the counter-value fund and grants, and is supported by the Ministry of Environment (Minam), the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp) and the international donor organizations: Conservation International (CI), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
