Madre de Dios: Tambopata National Reserve

The Tambopata National Reserve, located in Madre de Dios, is one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet. It protects tropical forests, rivers, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is a key area for scientific research, ecotourism, and conservation. Furthermore, it serves as a pilot project for sustainable management and environmental protection initiatives in the Peruvian Amazon.

Institutional strengthening of SINANPE

The institutional strengthening of SINANPE (National System of Natural Areas Protected by the State) seeks to improve the management, governance, and sustainability of protected areas in Peru. This includes staff training, process modernization, adequate funding, and the participation of communities and strategic partners. Its objective is to guarantee the effective conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Main
achievements

A training program was implemented such as Rights and mechanisms for the protection of environmental defenders, strengthening citizen participation, among others. This program was aimed at the coordinators of the Tambopata National Reserve's management committee; however, it was also attended by young people and women allied in conservation.

Continuous monitoring and alerts were issued regarding illegal activities in the Tambopata National Reserve's buffer zone.

The objective of this workshop was to strengthen the capacities of the heads of NPAs, management committees, ECAs and private administration contracts through the exchange of experiences and the construction of proposals for effective and sustainable management.

A participatory workshop was held to validate the Stakeholder Map and the Participation Radar, strengthening the identification of key stakeholders and their levels of involvement in the management of the territory in Lachay.

A communications campaign was carried out to raise awareness and disseminate the actions of the management committees of the protected natural areas.
