Since 2013, Compañía Minera Condestable SA (CMC) has been developing the Condestable mining project in the district of Mala, province of Cañete. This project aims to exploit an underground deposit of iron oxide, copper, and gold covering more than 45,000 hectares. CMC is also working with the Mala farming community and, in partnership with Profonanpe, is implementing a sustainability project. This project, driven and supported by the company's sustainability department, seeks to generate impactful results in the medium and long term, contributing to improved living conditions for the community members and positively impacting the environment.

Profonanpe is the environmental fund of Peru that provides innovative alternatives for environmental care and sustainable development.
The project is being implemented in the district of Mala, specifically in the rural community of Mala.
The direct beneficiaries of this project are the women and men who are members of the Mala Peasant Community and who participate directly in the project activities, specifically within the framework of components 1, 2, and 3. Also included are those families who directly benefit from the provision of drinking water, an activity framed within component 4; infrastructure that will be implemented and delivered to the Mala Peasant Community for its management; as well as the District Municipality of Mala, which benefits from the implementation of infrastructure linked to the tourist route of the district of Mala.
The first tourist route, the "Maleño Trail," was implemented, integrating sea, culture, and valley with an inclusive approach. It features accessible infrastructure that positions Mala as an innovative tourist destination.
The route was included in PromPerú's "What are your plans?" program, strengthening its national visibility. In addition, five attractions received the international TUR4ALL accessibility certification.
Four sustainable eco-businesses with a circular economy approach were implemented. They generate income for more than 50 families and promote local production with added value.
26 tons of waste were recovered, preventing 26.3 tons of CO₂ emissions. More than 21.1 million liters of water were also protected.
The Local Tourism Development Plan 2025–2029 and the Profile of the Visitor in Mala were approved. Key tools for planned and competitive tourism management.
The first ecological park in the Mala Peasant Community was implemented. It was built with 2 tons of recycled plastic and reused materials.
The first biological study of the Mala Hills was developed. Technical basis for the conservation and tourism promotion of the ecosystem.
Twenty-six tourist attractions were inventoried, approved, and published by MINCETUR. This positions Mala within the country's tourism offerings.
Mala Sostenible won 1st place at ProActivo and ExpoMina 2024. It was also a finalist in important national innovation and sustainability awards.
1.2 km of the Mala River bank were reforested, contributing to the reduction of erosion and protection of agricultural areas.
Local capacities were strengthened through an alliance with CENFOTUR, promoting the professionalization of tourism in the district.
