{"id":55106,"date":"2026-08-24T18:44:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T23:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=55106"},"modified":"2026-08-24T18:44:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T23:44:21","slug":"the-pichirhua-community-obtained-certification-of-the-community-agreement-supporting-the-creation-of-its-private-conservation-area-acp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/comunidad-de-pichirhua-logro-la-certificacion-del-acta-comunal-que-respalda-la-creacion-de-su-area-de-conservacion-privada-acp\/","title":{"rendered":"The community of Pichirhua obtained certification of the community resolution supporting the creation of its Private Conservation Area (ACP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After several months of work and internal dialogue, the Pichirhua Farmers\u2019 Community in Apur\u00edmac obtained certification of the community resolution supporting the creation of the Pichirhua Private Conservation Area (ACP), a fundamental requirement for continuing the process of official recognition by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/sernanp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SERNANP). The proposal covers 4,810 hectares of high-Andean ecosystems located at altitudes ranging from 2,200 to 4,500 meters. This area is home to que\u00f1ua forests, wet meadows, lagoons, and extensive grasslands that play a fundamental role in water regulation and biodiversity conservation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision was supported by 238 community members and will directly benefit approximately 350 families, consolidating a proposal driven by the community itself with the support of Conservaci\u00f3n Amaz\u00f3nica \u2013 ACCA as part of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/canned-birds\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conserva Aves Initiative.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the surveys conducted in the area, community members and specialists recorded iconic species such as the taruca (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hippocamelus antisensis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), the vizcacha (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lagidium viscacia<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the little bull of the Andes (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anairetes alpinus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), one of the country\u2019s most endangered birds and considered a conservation priority. Furthermore, the report confirmed the good conservation status of much of the territory and the importance of its ecosystems for protecting the water sources that supply downstream communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond protecting biodiversity, the future ACP aims to serve as an opportunity to strengthen community-based bird monitoring, boost nature tourism, and promote sustainable development alternatives for families in Pichirhua.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-55108 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Certification of the community minutes and the roster of eligible community members. \" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-2048x1364.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Ingreso-al-ACP-USNUPATA-18x12.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certification of the community minutes and the roster of eligible community members.<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, the community has been making progress on the technical report and the participatory zoning of the territory\u2014steps that will allow them to submit the application to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/sernanp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SERNANP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and move closer to official recognition of the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this progress, Pichirhua joins the growing number of communities that are demonstrating that conservation and people\u2019s well-being can go hand in hand, by embracing a development model that protects biodiversity and ensures water availability for future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Conserva Initiative is a partnership between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abcbirds.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Bird Conservancy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ABC), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/es\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Audubon Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdlife.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BirdLife International,<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdscanada.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Birds Canada<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redlac.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Funds Network <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(RedLAC). In Peru it is implemented by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Profonanpe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in conjunction with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ecoanperu.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andean Ecosystems Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ECOAN).
