With cumulative coverage of more than 5 million hectares of Amazonian forests under climate change mitigation measures, the Joint Declaration of Intent (DCI) Project consolidates significant progress in the conservation and sustainable management of the Peruvian Amazon\u2019s forests. This result was presented during the third regular session of the Board of Directors of the JDI\u2019s financial mechanism, as part of the project\u2019s final implementation phase.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Among its key achievements, the project strengthened mechanisms for sustainable land management, covering more than 15,000 hectares of agroforestry systems and permanent crops, the issuance of more than 2,000 Contracts for the Transfer of Use for Agroforestry Systems (CCUSAF), and the consolidation of community forest management across more than 208,000 hectares.<\/p>\n

In terms of conservation, the DCI project has contributed to the effective monitoring of 4.7 million hectares in two Protected Natural Areas (ANP) and eight Regional Conservation Areas (ACR), located in Loreto, Ucayali, Hu\u00e1nuco, and Amazonas. In addition, forest control and monitoring efforts were strengthened through monitoring systems, regional coordination forums, and community-based monitoring mechanisms.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the project helped strengthen legal certainty for indigenous territories by granting land titles and registering three indigenous communities in Madre de Dios, covering more than 66,000 hectares. This progress represents an important step toward sustainable forest management and the recognition of the rights of Amazonian indigenous peoples.<\/p>\n

In addition, the project strengthened forest governance by supporting the Regional Committees for Forest and Wildlife Control and Surveillance (MRCVFFS) in Hu\u00e1nuco, Amazonas, and Madre de Dios, which held 40 inter-institutional coordination meetings. In turn, the Regional Satellite Monitoring Units (UMSR) produced more than 400 technical reports for monitoring the Amazonian forests. These efforts are complemented by progress in the forest zoning processes in Amazonas, which contribute to better planning and sustainable land management.<\/p>\n

The results presented reflect the progress achieved thanks to the coordinated efforts of central government institutions, regional governments, and civil society, under the leadership of the Ministry of the Environment, the implementation by Profonanpe, and funding from the Government of Norway. This experience has made it possible to build capacity, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and develop tools that contribute to the sustainability of the initiatives promoted in the Peruvian Amazon, thereby creating enabling conditions for the new DCI.<\/p>\n
