{"id":54639,"date":"2026-06-16T18:57:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T23:57:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=54639"},"modified":"2026-06-16T18:57:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T23:57:18","slug":"profonanpe-and-the-fundacion-futuro-latinoamericano-are-promoting-investments-to-strengthen-water-security-in-tumbes-and-piura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/profonanpe-y-fundacion-futuro-latinoamericano-impulsan-inversiones-para-fortalecer-la-seguridad-hidrica-en-tumbes-y-piura\/","title":{"rendered":"Profonanpe and the Fundaci\u00f3n Futuro Latinoamericano are promoting investments to strengthen water security in Tumbes and Piura"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of its commitment to protecting the country\u2019s water sources, Profonanpe\u2019s Water Resources Management Program (PGRH) continues to strengthen the Water Funds Platform, a mechanism designed to channel funding toward initiatives that contribute to water security and resilience to climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this context, Profonanpe and the Fundaci\u00f3n Futuro Latinoamericano (FFLA) signed two collaboration agreements that will help promote Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EBA) initiatives, with a focus on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI), in two strategic watersheds in northern Peru.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the Tumbes region, activities will be carried out in partnership with the FONGIAT Water Fund and will focus on building the capacity of women leaders, water user organizations, Sanitation Service Management Boards (JASS), producer associations, and other local stakeholders. The goal is to improve water resource management in the face of the impacts of climate change, promote community leadership, and advance conservation and monitoring efforts for ecosystems critical to water supply.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, in Piura, the joint effort with the FORASAN Water Fund will contribute to the conservation of the headwaters of the Chira River in the rural communities of Samanga and Cuyas Cuchayo. This initiative aims to strengthen the protection of strategic cloud forest and p\u00e1ramo ecosystems, promote the active participation of young people and women, and implement nature-based solutions for the conservation of water sources.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese partnerships reflect the importance of coordinating efforts among organizations, communities, and local stakeholders to mobilize resources that will help conserve the ecosystems that sustain water availability for people, productive activities, and biodiversity,\u201d said Christian Bueno, manager of Profonanpe\u2019s Water Resources Management Program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both initiatives are part of the Financial Mechanisms Pillar of the PGRH, which promotes the mobilization of public, private, and international cooperation resources to strengthen the conservation and sustainable management of the country\u2019s water resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to promoting the Water Funds Platform, Profonanpe\u2019s Water Resources Management Program promotes mechanisms for payment for ecosystem services (MERESE), the coordination of international cooperation, knowledge management, and public policy advocacy, with the goal of scaling up investments and generating sustainable impacts to enhance Peru\u2019s water security.
