The goal will be to strengthen dialogue and consolidate agreements with local stakeholders and indigenous peoples regarding the zoning of this future protected area. This process will be part of the path toward establishing a new Regional Conservation Area (ACR) that recognizes the rights, uses, and activities of those who inhabit the territory, while safeguarding water sources, biodiversity, and the traditional territories of Mayunmarca, Ayacucho.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Service for State-Protected Natural Areas (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/sernanp\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sernanp<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) gave the go-ahead for the proposal for the Mayunmarca Cloud Forests Regional Conservation Area (ACR) to move on to the third stage of the establishment process. After reviewing the technical dossier and the progress made by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/regionayacucho\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayacucho Regional Government<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, accompanied by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yunkawasiperu.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yunkawasi<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the initiative took another step toward protecting one of Ayacucho's most biodiverse landscapes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With more than 45,000 hectares of cloud forests, high-Andean grasslands, and watershed headwaters, the proposed area aims to conserve one of the region\u2019s most important landscapes for water and biodiversity. This process made it possible to identify communities belonging to the Quechua and Matsigenka peoples, eight of which overlap with or utilize land within the scope of the proposed ACR. Based on this information, it will be possible to continue the dialogue with the communities, recognize their ways of using the territory, and establish clear agreements, promoting a conservation model that manages the territory and respects the activities that sustain local life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The progress of the Mayunmarca Cloud Forests ACR proposal reflects a joint effort led by the Regional Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Management of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/regionayacucho\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ayacucho Regional Government<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, accompanied by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yunkawasiperu.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yunkawasi <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the support of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.andesamazonfund.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andes Amazon Fund<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/canned-birds\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bird Conservation Initiative<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This initiative is carried out through the project \u201cParticipatory Conservation of the Tropical Andes in the Department of Ayacucho,\u201d which promotes living spaces where biodiversity, water, and communities are protected collectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conserva Aves is an alliance between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/abcbirds.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Bird Conservancy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ABC), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/es\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Audubon Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdlife.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BirdLife International,<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdscanada.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Birds Canada<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/redlac.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Funds Network <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(RedLAC). In Peru it is implemented by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Profonanpe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in conjunction with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ecoanperu.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andean Ecosystems Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ECOAN).
