The third Board of Directors of the financial mechanism of the Joint Declaration of Intent (JIU) was held with the participation of representatives of the central government, the regional governments, the project's indigenous partner organizations and Norway, as the donor country. During the session, the progress of 2025, the proposed Annual Operating Plan (AOP) 2026 and the allocation of resources for indigenous organizations were reviewed.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In its contribution to the fulfillment of climate and conservation objectives, the ICD Project has made significant progress during 2025. More than 4.5 million hectares are under mitigation measures, thanks to the coordinated work between Profonanpe, regional governments and partner organizations. Likewise, close to US$5 million was mobilized to reduce deforestation, allowing for the strengthening of conservation actions in Amazonian territories.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The JIU Project implements Peru's commitments under the Joint Declaration of Intent (JIU) on REDD+, which seeks to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation in the Peruvian Amazon. Likewise, through its actions, it promotes the strengthening of environmental public policies as part of the implementation of cross-cutting enabling conditions in the Amazon regions.<\/p>\n

In this line, during the development of activities foreseen in the Global Operational Plan 2024-2025, an advance of 96% was recorded in the number of hectares under mitigation measures in the components of agroforestry systems, community forest management and effective management of regional conservation areas and protected natural areas. Similarly, 85% of progress has been made in the implementation of enabling conditions in the Amazonian departments. By 2026, it is expected to conclude with the outcome targets in the different results.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Minister of Strategic Development of Natural Resources of the Ministry of the Environment, Romina Caminada, highlighted that the Financial Mechanism of the ICD has become a key space for coordinating efforts. She pointed out that joint work between State sectors, regional governments, indigenous organizations and international cooperation is essential to continue promoting actions in favor of the Amazon.<\/p>\n
