Through community workshops, assemblies and talking maps, the second stage of the process to establish this new protected area that seeks to conserve more than 51,000 hectares of Andean-Amazonian forests in central Peru continues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposed ACR is located in the districts of Anco, Chungui and Oronccoy, in the province of La Mar, and is home to ecosystems that connect the Andes with the Amazon. Its mountains and cloud forests feed the Churca, Esmeralda and Chup\u00f3n watersheds, which provide water to numerous communities and thousands of people, as well as being home to great biodiversity. This initiative seeks to protect these territories of life, which are essential for water security and climate stability in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-49471 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"571\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-1.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 10pt;\">Cloud forests on the road to the rural community of Santo Domingo de Huecchues, in the district of Chungui, in the center of the proposed ACR Mayunmarca Cloud Forests.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 10pt;\">\u00a9 Rene\u00e9 Vilchez | Yunkawasi<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Information process with a cross-cultural approach<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the last few months, the technical team of the Regional Management of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (GRRNGA) of the Regional Government of Ayacucho, with the support of Yunkawasi, developed the informative process of this proposal and carried out the social information gathering for the Preliminary Identification Report of Indigenous or Native Peoples (IIPIO), in coordination with the Ministry of Culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The field visits made it possible to gather the perceptions of the indigenous communities located in this landscape, through tools and spaces characterized by intercultural dialogue, transparency and respect for local knowledge. A total of 13 localities have been visited so far, with the objective of promoting a participatory conservation of the territory, integrating the voices of the communities in each step of this process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-49472 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-3.jpg 427w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Informative workshop in the rural community of Bel\u00e9n Chapi, of the Quechua indigenous people, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the district of Oronccoy, province of La Mar, Ayacucho.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 10pt;\">\u00a9 Rene\u00e9 Vilchez | Yunkawasi<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>A key step towards the protection of Ayacucho's Andean ecosystems<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ACR proposal seeks to ensure the continuity of the territories of life that sustain the communities and an outstanding diversity of fauna and flora. More than 128 bird species have been recorded in this area, 7 of which are endemic to Peru, such as the Ayacucho thistletail (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Asthenes ayacuchensis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), the black-eyed scrub (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlapetes melanopsis<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and Taczanowski's partridge (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nothoprocta taczanowskii<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the next actions, the technical team is preparing for an ornithological expedition with the communities of Bel\u00e9n Chapi, Santo Domingo de Huecchues and Uni\u00f3n Libertad de Rumichaca, which will deepen the knowledge about the diversity of birds in the RCA proposal and strengthen its appreciation in the local allied communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>An alliance for the territories of life in the Central Andes of Peru<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mayunmarca Cloud Forest RCA proposal is in the second stage of its establishment process and is led by the Regional Government of Ayacucho, with the support of Yunkawasi, Andes Amazon Fund and the Conserva Aves Initiative, through the project \u201cParticipative Conservation of the Tropical Andes in the Department of Ayacucho\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local and provincial municipalities have also joined this initiative, which together with Yunkawasi and the Ministry of the Environment, have been implementing environmental education kits to strengthen public awareness and commitment to the protection of cloud forests and their biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-49473 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-4-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Black-eyed bushman \" width=\"437\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-4-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Participacion-Comunitaria-Portada-4.jpg 383w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 437px) 100vw, 437px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black-eyed scrub-hawk (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atlapetes melanopsis<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), a Peruvian endemic bird whose range is restricted to the eastern Andes of central Peru, including the proposed Mayunmarca Cloud Forest RCA.  \u00a9 Joel Ayala<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a9 Rene\u00e9 Vilchez | Yunkawasi Comunidades locales vinculadas a la propuesta de \u00c1rea de Conservaci\u00f3n Regional (ACR) Bosques Nublados de Mayunmarca, en Ayacucho, participaron en espacios de di\u00e1logo y aprendizaje participativo donde compartieron sus expectativas y aportaron sus conocimientos para la futura gesti\u00f3n de esta iniciativa en sus territorios.
