This new space will serve as a refuge and food source for species such as bees, butterflies, flies and beetles. <\/span>Located in the main square of Huancabamba, the garden has 50 native honey plants that will provide food and protection to these insects, which are essential for maintaining biodiversity and local agriculture. This initiative seeks to become a first step towards the creation of pollinator-friendly public spaces, as well as to promote sustainable practices in both rural and urban areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The inauguration took place within the framework of the II Avocado Festival, one of the most important crops in the Oxapampa district and whose yield depends, to a great extent, on the pollination work carried out by insects such as bees and flies.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the implementation of the garden, a symbolic planting was carried out with the participation of authorities and representatives of the Oxapampa Agrarian Agency; the Chamber of Tourism, Agribusiness, Handicrafts and Environment of Huancabamba; Foncodes; the Institute of Development and Environment (IDMA); and the board of directors of the Avocado Festival. The attendees highlighted the importance of promoting joint actions for the protection of biodiversity and pollinating insects in the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the festival, the Poli-LAC project also participated in training activities for avocado growers. During a specialized talk, pollinator-friendly practices were discussed, such as raising native bees, creating live fences, avoiding monocultures and the responsible use of agrochemicals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The project also included an educational stand that provided information to both producers and children. Through educational materials and play activities, participants learned about the importance of pollinators, how to recognize them and how to contribute to their care from home or in the field.<\/span><\/p>\n
