{"id":38076,"date":"2024-11-13T09:03:18","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T14:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/?p=38076"},"modified":"2024-12-17T15:07:07","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T20:07:07","slug":"de-sierra-a-selva-deporte-de-aventura-en-medio-de-la-biodiversidad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/en\/de-sierra-a-selva-deporte-de-aventura-en-medio-de-la-biodiversidad\/","title":{"rendered":"From mountains to jungle: adventure sport amidst biodiversity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 250 competitors crossed the mountains and forests of <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clouds <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 mountain range, in Satipo, Jun\u00edn.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a9 Gerson Ferrer | Yunkawasi<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In June, the peasant community of Santa Rosa de Toldopampa, in the San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 mountain range, Jun\u00edn, was<\/span><b><i> venue of the 1st Tuctuca International Cycling Competition \u2013 Satipo 2024<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This event brought together more than 250 athletes who learned about the natural and cultural importance of this landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The route taken by the cyclists covered a geographically significant area, because <\/span><b><i>They toured the San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 \u2013 Menkori ACR Proposal<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which thanks to its lagoons, wetlands and cloud forests is one of the <\/span><b><i>main sources of water resources for the Mantaro and Peren\u00e9 basins.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In addition, this natural area is also home to emblematic species such as the spectacled bear and the yellow-tailed woolly monkey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This mountain range includes peasant and native communities who, through traditional practices, <\/span><b><i>They preserve their cultural values and natural resources<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These are the communities with whom the Natural Resources and Environmental Management Office of the Regional Government of Jun\u00edn is conducting outreach regarding the proposed San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 \u2013 Menkori Regional Conservation Area (ACR). This initiative is currently underway. <\/span><b><i>Stage II of its establishment process<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has the technical and financial support of the Yunkawasi Civil Association, Rainforest Trust, Andes Amazon Fund and the Conserva Aves initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The competitors started at over 3500 meters above sea level in the high Andean zone of Satipo, and along almost 90 km they crossed the different ecosystems of this mountain range, which also includes the area of the Avireri \u2013 Vraem and Bosques de Neblina \u2013 Selva Central Biosphere Reserves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-38078 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/profonanpe.org.pe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/2024_06_22-CiclismoCCToldopampa-\u00a9GersonFerrer-Yunkawasi-46-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 \u2013 Menkori is the name of the ACR proposal that seeks to establish<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Regional Government of Jun\u00edn in the provinces of Satipo and Concepci\u00f3n.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a9 Kevin Lopez | Yunkawasi<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe protect our community because we are headwaters of a watershed. All of Peru needs to know that we care for and protect our water sources.\u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Jorge Avellaneda, President of the Peasant Patrol of Santa Rosa de Toldopampa, mentioned.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Toldopampa community was in charge of activities that complemented the event., <\/span><b><i>organizing a cultural evening and the payment to the earth ceremony at the Tuctuca lagoon<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In addition, it provided food and lodging services for the dozens of athletes who participated in the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event was the result of joint organization by the Provincial Municipality of Satipo, the District Municipalities of Pampa Hermosa and Coviriali, the Santa Rosa de Toldopampa peasant community and the cycling associations Aciper Satipo, Team Rutero Satipo, Vivencia Ride and Team Cycles Max.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tuctuca \u2013 Satipo 2024 International Cycling Competition has demonstrated that, with the effort of the communities and in partnership with public and private institutions, <\/span><b><i>Landscape resources can be sustainably used to achieve the development and well-being of local populations.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to the project \u201cParticipatory Conservation of the Tropical Andes in the department of Jun\u00edn \u2013 Peru\u201d, funded by the Conserva Aves initiative and implemented by Yunkawasi in partnership with the Regional Government of Jun\u00edn, the work will continue <\/span><b><i>promoting the involvement of local communities in conservation initiatives that enhance the potential of the landscape of the proposed San Crist\u00f3bal de Pucut\u00e1 \u2013 Menkori Regional Conservation Area.<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>About Preserving Birds<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conserva Aves is<\/span><b><i> protection of living territories. <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is an innovative, bold, and visionary initiative for effective nature conservation.
